Avoiding Glyphosate and Synthetic Additives
Organic where it counts, with particular attention to the crops most likely to be desiccated before harvest. Where practical is doing real work in that sentence.
The protocol
- Avoid glyphosate exposure and synthetic additives where practical.
- Extra attention to crops commonly desiccated pre-harvest — oats and wheat especially.
- A default that bends, not a rule that breaks.

What I do
Organic where it matters, with particular attention to the crops most likely to be sprayed as a pre-harvest desiccant rather than only during growing — oats and wheat especially. That distinction is why this is not simply "buy organic": the exposure is concentrated in specific crops and specific practices, not spread evenly across the produce aisle.
Being careful about the evidence
The glyphosate literature is genuinely contested and I am not going to represent it as settled in either direction. People do, in both directions, and both are overreaching.
What I will say is that the cost of choosing the other option is close to zero for me. That is a different justification than evidence of harm, and worth keeping distinct — I am not avoiding it because I think the case is closed, I am avoiding it because avoiding it is cheap and the case is open.
Why "where practical" is in the protocol
Because the alternative is a rule that breaks the first time I eat at someone's house, and a rule that breaks is worse than a default that bends. This is what I buy when I am the one buying. It is not something I audit other people's kitchens for.
